GOLF ADVICE FROM JACK NICKLAUS:
Make Your Grip Harmonize Your Hands
I’ve always felt that golfers tend to get too nit-picky about how many knuckles are visible, or where the “Vs” of the thumbs and forefingers point when the grip is completed. If you stand erect with your arms hanging freely at your sides, then extend them forward and wrap your hands easily around the club without any twisting or manipulating, you’ll never go far wrong in terms of hand alignment.
The most important thing about the grip is that the hands don’t fight with each other during the swing – they should work together in total harmony. This makes how the fingers take hold of the club at least as important as hand alignment. The more space your fingers occupy on the club, the harder it will be for your hands to function as a single unit. The fingers of both hands, as well as the hands themselves, should be as close together as you can comfortably get them.
Jack Nicklaus’ Golf Course Superintendent and Lawn-Boy Offer Eight Steps to a Great Lawn
As golf course superintendent, Paul B. Latshaw has prepared great-looking tournament-quality grass for the past 15 years, including preparations for three PGA events including the 2004 and 2005 Memorial Tournaments at Muirfield Village Golf Club, Jack Nicklaus’ home course. According to Latshaw, using the right tools and techniques will help ensure that your lawn stays golf-course vibrant all year long.
Latshaw teamed with the lawn care experts at Lawn-Boy to offer these eight tips to help turn your backyard into a space that will have your neighbors turning green with envy.
